## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

JETIT817 (N416JT) WAS ON A FLIGHT FROM KCLT TO KBLM. ATC ISSUED MULTIPLE CHANGES TO BOTH ROUTE AND ALTITUDES LEADING THE PILOTS TO REQUEST A DIVERSION TO KACY TO MAKE A FUEL STOP. WHILE IN CLEAR AIR BETWEEN TWO THUNDERSTORM CELLS (MAINTAINING MORE THAN 20NM DISTANCE FROM EACH) THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED SEVERE TURBULENCE. THE PILOTS REPORTED THEIR ISSUE AND CONTINUED ON APPROACH TO KACY WHILE ATC DECLARED AND EMERGENCY FOR THEM. UPON LANDING THE NOTED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE FROM HAIL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
