## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT STARTED AIRCRAFT PREFLIGHT AROUND 11:00 FOR STUDENT?S FIRST FLIGHT/AIRCRAFT FAMILIARIZATION. INSTRUCTOR STATED THAT SHE CHECKED FUEL ON THE GAUGE AND ALSO DIPPED THE TANK WITH THE MANUFACTURER?S SUPPLIED DIPSTICK. SHE REPORTED SEEING FULL ON BOTH.

INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT PILOT (FIRST FLIGHT) LEFT UAO AT AROUND 12:15 LOCAL TIME FOR A FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHT. AROUND 13:05 LOCAL TIME THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND CAME BACK AFTER RAISING THE NOSE. INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL AND MANEUVERED IN THE DIRECTION OF THE CLOSEST AIRPORT. AIRCRAFT LOST MOST AND THEN ALL POWER A FEW MINUTES LATER. INSTRUCTOR DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH PDX APPROACH CONTROL. INSTRUCTOR RECOGNIZED THAT LANDING ON AN AIRPORT WAS NOT POSSIBLE SO SELECTED A FIELD AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. TIME OF LANDING APPROXIMATELY 13:15 LOCAL TIME.

INSTRUCTOR SAID THAT AT ENGINE POWER LOSS, THE FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL QUANTITY INDICATORS WERE READING LOW. THE INSTRUCTOR DIPPED THE TANK AFTER LANDING AND THE DIPSTICK SHOWED NO FUEL.

AIRCRAFT DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE SUSTAINED DAMAGE FROM THE OFF-FIELD LANDING.

DURING ON-SCENE INVESTIGATION INSPECTORS DRAINED FUEL AND FOUND LESS THAN 4 OZ. OF FUEL REMAINING. AIRCRAFT WAS REFUELED BY OWNER WITH 10 GALLONS OF 100LL AVGAS. NO LEAKS WERE OBSERVED. AIRCRAFT SHOWED AROUND ½ TANK ON GAUGE AND ON DIPSTICK. AIRCRAFT STARTED AND RAN WITHOUT ISSUE.

AIRCRAFT OWNER?S RECORDS SHOWED AROUND 4.4 HOURS OF FLYING TIME SINCE LAST RECORDED FUELING, WHICH WOULD COINCIDE WITH APPROXIMATE FUEL CAPACITY (24 GALLON TANK, AROUND 6 GALLONS AN HOUR NORMAL FUEL BURN).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
