## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING DESCENT AND APPROACH TO LAND AT FT. MYERS, FL (KFMY) FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT EXPERIENCED A STUCK THROTTLE. INSTRUCTOR COULD NOT ADD POWER TO CONTROL DESCENT. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO FREE THE STUCK THROTTLE BUT ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND TO INPUTS. RATHER THAN INITIATE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A SUBDIVISION THE INSTRUCTOR ELECTED TO DEPLOY THE CAPS AND LAND IN THE RIVER, AWAY FROM POPULATED AREAS. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT BY THE NTSB IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE CABLE HAD SEPARATED FROM THE SWEDGED FITTING THAT ATTACHES TO THE FUEL SERVO.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
