## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER DEPARTED HNH FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT. THE PILOT STATED THAT VMC PREVAILED AND THE WINDS WERE LIGHT. THEY RETURNED TO HNH AND AFTER A NORMAL APPROACH AND LANDING, THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING ROLLOUT.

THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS TRAVELING VERY SLOWLY ON THE RUNWAY AND HE LOOKED DOWN TO LOCATE THE COWL FLAP CONTROLS. WHILE HE WAS LOOKING DOWN, THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED, THE RIGHT WING TIP STRUCK THE SURFACE, AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY AND DOWN A STEEP EMBANKMENT. THE AIRCRAFT IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT FIRE AND BOTH PILOTS WERE ABLE TO EXIT WITHOUT INJURY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY CONSUMED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC21LA051](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC21LA051), Jul 3, 2021: Cessna A185F (N1199Q), Hoonah, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
