## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT IN COMMAND ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS TRYING TO HAND PROP AIRCRAFT OUTSIDE THE HANGER, HE DID NOT CHOCK THE TIRES, TIE THE TAIL AND THOUGHT HE HAD SET THE BRAKES. THE AIRCRAFT STARTED ON FIRST ATTEMPT AND WAS IDLING FASTER THAN EXPECTED AND TURNED APPROXIMATELY 180 AND MOVED UNDER POWER TOWARDS THE HANGER . IT HIT THE HANGER ON THE RIGHT WING FIRST THEN LEFT WING AND FINALLY THE PROP BEFORE ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ABLE TO REACH IN, REDUCE THE THROTTLE AND DO AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN. NO OCCUPANTS WERE INSIDE THE AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA310](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA310), Jul 5, 2021: Aeronca 11AC (N9149E), Wapakoneta, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate engine hand propping procedure resulting in the unoccupied airplane’s unintended movement and subsequent impact with a hangar.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
