## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RUNWAY 19 AT 14J PERFORMING A SOFT FIELD TAKE OFF. UPON CLIMB OUT, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL AND ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY BUT LACKED ENOUGH ALTITUDE AND PERFORMED A CONTROLLED DECENT THROUGH THE TREES AND CAME TO REST IN A ROUGHLY 40 DEGREE NOSE DOWN ATTITUDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA284](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA284), Jul 11, 2021: Cessna 150 (N8172S), Elba, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The partial loss of engine power due to the formation of carburetor ice, which resulted in reduced climb capability and impact with trees during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
