## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MOONEY M20J, N4474H, A FOUR SEAT SINGLE ENGINE NATURALLY ASPIRATED AIRCRAFT, WITH FOUR OCCUPANTS ON BOARD DEPARTED DOWNWIND ON RUNWAY 09 AT D63 AIRPORT, DINSMORE, CA.

AFTER DEPARTURE THE AIRCRAFT MADE CONTACT WITH A TREE LOCATED 1,450' SE FROM THE END OF RUNWAY 09. CONTACT WITH A TREE SUBSEQUENTLY CAUSED A LARGE PORTION OF THE RH WING TO DEPART THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN ROLLED INVERTED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND 200' S FROM THE POINT OF CONTACT WITH THE FIRST TREE. DURING IMPACT WITH THE GROUND THE INVERTED LH WING WAS SEPARATED FROM THE AIRCRAFT BY ANOTHER TREE AND SPUN THE INVERTED FUSELAGE INTO ANOTHER TREE WHERE IT CAME TO A STOP.

POST-IMPACT FIRE CONSUMED THE FUSELAGE.

ALL FOUR OCCUPANTS WERE FATALLY INJURED.

ON-SITE AND POST-RECOVERY EXAMINATIONS OF THE AIRCRAFT FOUND ALL PRIMARY FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES WERE PRESENT AND THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. CONTINUITY OF THE CONTROLS RODS TO THE CONTROL SURFACES WAS ESTABLISHED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21FA272](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21FA272), Jul 15, 2021: Mooney M20J (N4474H), Dinsmore, CA, destroyed, 4 fatal. Probable cause: The airplane’s degraded engine performance due to wear to the intake cam lobes, which diminished the airplane’s takeoff and climb performance, resulting in a subsequent collision with trees.

## Other reports on N4474H (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20020706036699I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20020706036699I), Jul 6, 2002: Mooney M20J (N4474H), Corona, CA, Minor damage. (-23) Airman landed a Mooney-20 on runway 25 at Corona airport without extending the landing gear.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
