## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THE FOLLOWING:

CLEAR SKY

NO WIND

ACFT WAS 400 POUND UNDER GROSS WEIGHT

FLIES IN AND OUT OF AREA SIX TO SEVEN TIMES A YEAR

THERE WAS NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE AIRCRAFT

COMPLACENCY WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR

PILOT LANDED ON AMERICAN CREEK, PICKED UP CLIENT AND CARGO AND WAS HEADING TO HAMMERSLY LAKE.

PILOT TOOK OFF TO THE SOUTH AND AFTER BECOMING AIRBORNE, TURNED 180 DEGREES AND NOW WAS HEADING NORTH PARALLEL TO AMERICAN CREEK AFTER GETTING TO THE APPROPRIATE ALTITUDE TURNED 90 DEGREES HEADING EAST.

AS THE PILOT WAS HEADING EAST FOR A SADDLE IN THE TERRAIN HE NOTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT CLIMBING SUFFICIENTLY TO CLEAR TERRAIN SAFELY. HE ADDED FLAPS AND INITIATED TURN TO THE SOUTH, WHILE IN THE TURN HE KNEW THAT THE ACFT WAS GOING TO STALL AND APPLIED FULL POWER. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND GOING FORWARD AND CAME TO REST INVERTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC21LA062](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC21LA062), Jul 19, 2021: Dehavilland DHC-2 MK 1 (N68080), King Salmon, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s exceedance of the floatplane’s critical angle of attack, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and subsequent loss of control.

## Other reports on N68080 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19871130076769I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19871130076769I), Nov 30, 1987: Dhav DHC2MK2 (N68080), Chelan, WA, Minor damage. Attempted takeoff from lake with heavy load. Snow on aircraft. Settled back hard on lake.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
