## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR GIVING SINGLE ENGINE FLOAT INSTRUCTION NOTED A SKI BOAT TRAVELLING AT HIGH SPEED APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET TO THE RIGHT OF AIRCRAFT. THE BOAT TURNED TOWARD THE AIRCRAFT, BUT THE AIRCRAFT COULD NOT TURN TO THE LEFT FAST ENOUGH. THE BOAT STRUCK THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER DAMAGING IT, BOTH ELEVATORS, RUDDER/VERTICAL STAB, AND TWISTING THE ENTIRE EMPENNAGE./////

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA295](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA295), Jul 21, 2021: Cessna 172I (N46287), Renton, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The boat operator’s failure to remain a safe distance from the floatplane during the takeoff run, which resulted in a collision.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
