## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 21 AT APPROXIMATELY 11:10 AM THE PILOT INVOLVED IN THIS ACCIDENT ATTEMPTED LANDING RUNWAY 31 AT THE JACKSONVILLE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (KIJX) TO REFUEL HIS AIRCRAFT. DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE PILOT REPORTEDLY FLARED TOO EARLY AND TOO HIGH. IN ATTEMPT TO SALVAGE THE LANDING FROM THIS POSITION THE PILOT LET THE AIRCRAFT SETTLE TO THE RUNWAY TOO ABRUPTLY; BOUNCED, THEN GO-AROUND WAS ATTEMPTED. DURING THE BOUNCE RECOVERY PHASE, THE PILOT ADDED FULL POWER AND HAD FORGOTTEN TO RAISE HIS FLAPS. THE FULL POWER APPLICATION COMBINED WITH FULL FLAPS CAUSED THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT TO PITCH EXCESSIVELY HIGH RESULTING IN STALL AND IMPACT WITH THE GROUND JUST LEFT OF THE RUNWAY IN THE GRASS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA332](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA332), Jul 21, 2021: Madera RV-3 (N3S), Jacksonville, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper flare during landing which resulted in an attempted go-around, loss of control, and aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
