THE CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 3 NM AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT HE WAS HELPING THE STUDENT PICK-UP WEATHER AND STARTED COMMUNICATION WITH THE OTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. HE COMMUNICATED THAT THERE WAS A BIT OF CONFUSION WITH ANOTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE DOWNWIND AND ONE TRYING TO TAKE OFF, IN ADDITION TO THEM ENTERING THE PATTERN. DURING THIS TIME, THE STUDENT CONFIGURED THE AIRCRAFT FOR LANDING. THE CFI FURTHER STATED THAT HE BECAME DISTRACTED BY THE OTHER AIRCRAFT IN THE PATTERN, DID NOT CONFIRM THAT THE STUDENT COMPLETED A GUMPS CHECK, AND DON'T REMEMBER LOOKING FOR THE THREE GREEN INDICATORS. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED AT CLEARWATER AIR PARK (KCLW) ON THE RUNWAY 34 WITH THE LANDING GEAR RETRACTED, RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED ABRASION DAMAGE TO THE LOWER FUSELAGE SKIN THAT PENETRATED THE SKIN IN NUMEROUS PLACES WITH UNDERLYING DAMAGE TO THE FRAMES AND STRINGERS OVER AN AREA ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 6 FEET LONG BY 2 FEET WIDE. THE BULKHEAD AFT OF THE WHEEL WELL WAS ALSO DEFORMED. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CFI AND STUDENT PILOT WERE ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT, NO ONE WAS INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA303](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA303), Jul 23, 2021: Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecna P2006T (N4445T), Clearwater, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to extend the landing gear prior to landing. Contributing to the accident was the flight instructor’s inadequate supervision to confirm the landing gear was extended.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
