## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

07/25/2021: AIRMAN^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, A PRIVATE PILOT WITH A TAILWHEEL ENDORSEMENT, RECENTLY PURCHASED THE ACCIDENT AIRCRAFT AND WAS REQUIRED BY HIS INSURANCE COMPANY TO LOG FIVE HOURS IN MAKE AND MODEL. AIRMAN^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ENGAGED WITH CFI ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TO COMPLETE THE FIVE HOURS. THE FIRST HOUR CONSISTED OF MANEUVERS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO TURNS, STEEP TURNS, SLOW FLIGHT, AND APPROACH TO LANDING STALLS WITH RECOVERIES. PRIOR TO THE LANDING ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (CFI) REMINDED THE PIC TO KEEP THE PLANE STRAIGHT AND DON?T BE SLOW ON THE RUDDER PEDALS OR OVER CONTROL THEM. DURING THE LANDING, BASE LEG, THE CFI NOTED TO THE PIC THE AIRCRAFT WAS HIGH AND THE PIC SLIPPED THE AIRCRAFT TO LOOSE ALTITUDE. THE CFI NOTED THE SLIP WAS DONE CORRECTLY AND THE PIC LEVELED OFF OVER THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SMOOTHLY WITH NO BOUNCE AND CONTINUED DOWN THE RUNWAY. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ (CFI) INSTRUCTED THE PIC TO APPLY BRAKES SLOWLY AND MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. AT THIS POINT THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO YAW TO THE RIGHT AND, TO THE LEFT. THE CFI (LOUDLY) STATED ?RIGHT RUDDER AND BRAKE?. THE CFI APPLIED FULL RIGHT RUDDER ALONG WITH THE PIC BUT WAS UNABLE TO PREVENT THE AIRCRAFT FROM EXITING THE RUNWAY DAMAGING THE RIGHT WING, LANDING GEAR, ENGINE, AND PROPELLER. NOTE: THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH BRAKES ON THE CFI SIDE CONTRIBUTING TO THE LOSS OF CONTROL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA348](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA348), Jul 25, 2021: Cessna 140 (N76596), Bloomsburg, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control during the landing rollout, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
