## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT TOOK OFF FROM KPTN. CLIMBED TO 2000' AND LEVELED OFF. WITHOUT PILOT INPUT ENGINE WENT TO FULL POWER. PILOT TRIED THREE TIMES TO ADJUST ENGINE THROTTLE BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. PILOT RADIOED TO BASE TO INFORM OF SITUATION AND PROCEEDED TO FIND THE CLOSEST AIRPORT TO LAND. WITHOUT PILOT INPUT ENGINE THEN WENT TO IDLE. AGAIN THROTTLE ADJUSTMENT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. PILOT THEN ADVISED BASE HE WOULD NOT MAKE IT TO AN AIRPORT AND LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO MAKE A WATER LANDING. PILOT SETTLED ON A SPOT NEXT TO MARSH IN FOURLEAGE BAY. UPON WATER LANDING AIRCRAFT FLIPPED ON ITS TOPSIDE AND PILOT EGRESSED AND SAT ON BELLY OF AIRCRAFT AWAITING RESCUE. PILOT STATED ENGINE WAS RUNNING SATISFACTORY PRIOR TO INCIDENT AND STILL RUNNING AT IDLE WHEN HITTING THE WATER. WEATHER WAS CLEAR SKIES AND CALM AND WAS NOT A FACTOR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA358](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA358), Jul 27, 2021: Cessna 182 (N148LP), Patterson, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The mechanic’s failure to properly secure the throttle arm rendering it loose and inoperable after takeoff, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
