## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT REACHED APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET OF ALTITUDE ON TAKE OFF AND THE ENGINE QUIT. PILOT IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RUNWAY. AS AIRCRAFT WAS APPROACHING THE END OF THE RUNWAY, THE PILOT CHOSE TO STEER THE AIRCRAFT INTO A STAND OF ALDER TREES THAT LINE THE RUNWAY IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT, AS THERE IS A RIVER JUST PAST THE END OF THE RUNWAY. AIRCRAFT SPUN AFTER THE LEFT WING CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE ALDERS AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST PARTIALLY ENTANGLED IN THE BRANCHES WITH DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING TIP, RIGHT FLAP, RIGHT ELEVATOR AND LANDING GEAR. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION REVEALED THAT THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS PARTIALLY IN BETWEEN THE RIGHT TANK POSITION AND OFF.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC21LA070](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC21LA070), Aug 5, 2021: Alaskan Air Adventures SQ2 (N148CM), Talkeetna, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadvertent movement of the fuel selector valve to a position between the tanks, which resulted in fuel starvation and a subsequent loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
