## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING FLIGHT TRAINING FOR A MULTI ENGINE RATING, THE CFI/MEI HAD THE ASEL RATED PRIVATE PILOT PERFORM AN EMERGENCY DESCENT AND A SIMULATED ENGINE OUT CONDITION.

DURING ATTEMPTED RECOVERY FROM THE DIVE, CREW STATES THEY WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN SUFFICENT PITCH AUTHORITY TO FULLY ARREST DESCENT RESULTING IN A FORCED LANDING IN A FIELD. THE RESULTING HARD LANDING SHEARED OFF NOSE AND MAIN LANDING GEAR AND CAUSED PROP STRIKES ON BOTH ENGINES SHATTERING ALL SIX PROP BLADES AND CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO INBOARD SECTION OF RIGHT WING.

POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION AND TESTING OF AIRCRAFT AND ITS SYSTEMS DID NOT REVEAL ANY DEFECTS OR ABNORMALITIES THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT OTHER THAN THE POSITION OF THE PITCH TRIM.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA21LA322](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA21LA322), Aug 9, 2021: Diamond DA42 (N906ER), Hiddenite, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s inability to stop the descent following a practice emergency descent for reasons that could not be determined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
