## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

OPERATOR / PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC) WAS PERFORMING AERIAL APPLICATION OF PESTICIDE. ACCORDING TO A WITNESS, THE PIC HAD COMPLETED TWO PASSES. THE PIC THEN FLEW STRAIGHT AND LEVEL INTO NEARBY POWERLINES. CONTROL WAS LOST AND THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND SECONDS LATER AND WAS DESTROYED. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE NTSB WAS ON SCENE AND WILL DETERMINE CAUSE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21FA368](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21FA368), Aug 10, 2021: Rockwell International S2R (N4956X), Strasburg, ND, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s intentional flight under power lines and his failure to maintain clearance from the lines during an aerial application flight.

## Other reports on N4956X (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19770902030459A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19770902030459A), Sep 2, 1977: Ayres S2R (N4956X), Clovis, NM, Substantial damage

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
