## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER EXTENSIVE ENGINE RUN UP, ENGINE FAILED JUST AFTER TAKEOFF. RPMS DROPPED TO ABOUT 5K, WHICH PRODUCED STABLE FLIGHT. PILOT DECIDED TO RETURN TO RUNWAY, BUT ENGINE WENT TO IDLE AS HE TURNED. WITHOUT POWER HE CRASHED INTO AN OPEN FIELD. THE PILOT STATED, "I KNOW THAT AS THE RPM DROPPED, I MADE A GENTLE TURN TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID THE HOME AND THEN TRIED TO FLARE BUT WITH NO SPEED OR ALTITUDE TO PLAY WITH ALL I DID WAS PANCAKE AND MAYBE SLID 20' AT MOST."

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
