## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

TWO PILOTS RENTED N172LN FROM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TO BUILD FLIGHT TIME. N172LN, CESSNA CE-172, IMMEDIATELY AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY 9 THE PILOT REPORTED HE NEEDED TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLEARED TO LAND RUNWAY 9 AND WAS OBSERVED TRAILING SMOKE. AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE ENGINE HAD FAILED AND OIL WAS VISIBLE ALONG THE SIDE OF THE FUSELAGE. CESSNA CE-172P, N172LN IS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND OPERATED BY NON-CERTIFICATED FLIGHT SCHOOL^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. NO INJURIES TO BOTH PILOTS AND NO DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
