## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT PERFORMED TAXI AND RUN-UP WITH OUT ISSUE FOR PIC. SHORTLY AFTER TAKE-OFF AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED AND ENGINE FAILURE AND PILOT WAS FORCED TO LAND IN AN ABANDONED QUARRY.

A POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT PERFORMED BY ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AND INSPECTOR^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^WITH THE NTX FSDO WAS PERFORMED. FROM THEIR INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE WAS A RESTRICTION OF FUEL FLOW DUE TO THE FUEL SELECTOR BEING SLIGHTLY AJAR.

DURING THE ENGINE TEST RUN IT WAS REQUIRED BY^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ PERSONNEL TO PRIME THE ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP INDICATING THAT THE ENGINE WAS STARVED OF FUEL.

DURING THIS INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED BY INSPECTOR ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THAT THE DETENT FOR THE FUEL SELECTOR WORN MAKING IT BARELY AUDIBLE AND HARD TO FEEL.

THE FUEL SELECTOR BEING SLIGHTLY AJAR WOULD HAVE ALLOWED FOR NORMAL OPERATION WHILE ON THE GROUND BUT WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED ENOUGH FUEL FLOW TO MAINTAIN FLIGHT.

A FURTHER REVIEW OF THE AIRCRAFT'S MAINTENANCE LOGS SHOW THAT IT HAD COMPLIED WITH ALL AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES RELATED TO THE KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SELECTOR.

ALSO ON JUNE 30TH 2021 THERE IS A LOG ENTRY FOR TROUBLE SHOOTING THE ENGINE RUNNING ROUGH ON POWER REDUCTION. AS A RESULT THE ENGINE DRIVE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL DIVIDER WERE OVERHAULED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA382](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA382), Aug 24, 2021: Beech A36 (N67CW), Granbury, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined with the available information.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
