## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2021 AT ARLINGTON MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WA, THE MISHAP PILOT IN COMMAND (PIC), IN A RAGWING S1 AIRCRAFT, N423JB, WAS DOING PATTERN WORK. AFTER SEVERAL CIRCUITS AROUND THE PATTERN, N423JB WAS ON FINAL FOR LANDING WHEN THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED HARD ON THE CLOSED RUNWAY ADJACENT TO THE TURF RUNWAY 8-26, THEN CRASH LANDED ON THE ADJACENT TURF AREA. THE PIC WAS SEVERELY INJURED, AND AIRCRAFT N423JB WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. AIRPORT OPERATIONS AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED AND ASSISTED IN TRANSPORTING PIC TO THE HOSPITAL. THE AIRCRAFT WAS RECOVERED FROM THE TURF AREA AND PLACED IN THE PIC'S HANGAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA336](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA336), Sep 4, 2021: Ragwing S1 (N423JB), Arlington, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s loss of directional control during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
