## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2021, AT APPROXIMATELY 0745 CST, N218JD WAS BEING OPERATED ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT AT SHELBY COUNTY AIRPORT (2H0). THE AIRCRAFT LIFTED OFF OF RUNWAY 32 WITH THE PILOT RECEIVING INSTRUCTION ON THE CONTROLS. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT FELT THAT THE PILOT RECEIVING INSTRUCTION WAS PULLING OUT OF GROUND EFFECT AT AN AIRSPEED THAT WAS TOO SLOW. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT THEN APPLIED FORWARD PRESSURE ON THE STICK IN ORDER TO PROMPT THE PILOT RECEIVING INSTRUCTION TO REMAIN IN GROUND EFFECT LONGER IN ORDER TO BUILD MORE AIRSPEED. THIS LED TO THE TWO PILOTS APPLYING OPPOSITE CONTROL INPUTS. AT THIS TIME THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO DRIFT TOWARD THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT LOST ALTITUDE AND SKIPPED OFF OF THE INTERSECTING GRASS RUNWAY (RUNWAY 4-22). THE CONTACT WITH THE INTERSECTING RUNWAY CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO YAW TO THE RIGHT AND ENTER A SOYBEAN FIELD ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF RUNWAY 32. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED MULTIPLE TIMES AS THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TURNING TO THE RIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST FACING A SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION. THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR WAS DAMAGED DURING THE INCIDENT. THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE UNINJURED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
