## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2021 AT 1500 LOCAL TIME, A CIRRUS SR20 AIRCRAFT, N81EZ, REGISTERED TO A 14 CFR PART 141 FLIGHT SCHOOL AND OPERATED BY A STUDENT PILOT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE FOLLOWING A LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND SUBSEQUENT RUNWAY EXCURSION DURING LANDING ON RUNWAY 30 AT DEFIANCE, OHIO (DFI). VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS AND MODERATE CROSS WINDS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE TRAINING FLIGHT WAS BEING CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (CFR) PART 141 WITH A FLIGHT PLAN. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS NOT INJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM THE BATTLE CREEK EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (BTL), BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN AT APPROXIMATELY 1330.

ACCORDING WITNESSES, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED 2 OR 3 TIMES FOLLOWING INITIAL TOUCH-DOWN THEN VEERED LEFT INTO THE GRASS BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR WHEEL PANT AND A SMALL NICK IN THE PROPELLER. NO ENGINE STOPPAGE WAS REPORTED.

MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REMOVED AND INSPECTED THE PROPELLER AS WELL AS REPLACED THE WHEEL PANT PRIOR TO FERRYING THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO BATTLE CREEK FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
