## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT TOOK OFF FROM RUNWAY 16 AT SHIRLEY WILLIAMS AIRSTRIP (44TE) NEAR KINGSLAND TEXAS AT 11AM. CLIMBED TO 4OO FEET WHEN THE PILOTS BALL CAP AND HEADSET WAS AFFECTED BY THE WIND. AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT, THE PILOT LOST OPERATIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO RECOVER. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED INTO THE LAKE. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO EVACUATE THE AIRCRAFT BEFORE IT SANK IN THE LAKE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO POST CRASH FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING IMPACT WITH THE WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN21LA447](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN21LA447), Sep 19, 2021: Morgan Sport Copter Vortex (N924WG), Kingsland, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s diverted attention which resulted in an inadvertent descent and subsequent collision with a lake.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
