## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT REPORTED A LEFT CROSS WIND ON LANDING. THIS CROSS WIND PUSHED THE TAIL TO THE RIGHT CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO BRIEFLY DEPART THE RUNWAY CAUSING THE LEFT LOWER WING TO CONTACT A RUNWAY SIGN AND THE GROUND DAMAGING THE LOWER LEFT WING. WHEN THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL THE RIGHT LOWER WING HIT THE GROUND CAUSING SLIGHT DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT LOWER WING. THE AIRCRAFT WAS ABLE TO TAXI BACK TO PARKING WITH LIGHT DAMAGE TO BOTH LOWER WINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR21LA349](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR21LA349), Sep 21, 2021: Beech D17S (N1196V), San Diego / El Cajon, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll with a crosswind, which resulted in a runway excursion and subsequent collision with runway signage.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
