## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ EXPERIENCED A LITHIUM BATTERY FIRE DURING BOARDING THAT RESULTED IN AN EVACUATION AT THE GATE. THE FLIGHT WAS SCHEDULED TO OPERATE ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 FROM BOSTON LOGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOS) TO PITTSBURG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (PIT).

A STRONG ELECTRICAL SMELL PRECEDED SMOKE AND EVENTUALLY FIRE IN THE AISLE COMING FROM BATTERIES IN A BACK PACK. THE AFA ORDERED PEOPLE TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT OVER THE PA UPON SEEING SPARKS AND SMOKE IN THE AISLE. THE FIRST OFFICER ASSISTED PASSENGERS ONTO THE JETWAY AT 1L. THE BFA ARMED 2L AND EVACUATED PASSENGERS UPON HEARING THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO EXIT THE AIRCRAFT. THE FIRST OFFICER BROUGHT THE PASSENGERS WHO HAD EVACUATED OUT 2L UP THE STAIRS AND ONTO THE JETWAY. FIRE COMING FROM THE BACKPACK HAD DISSOLVED PRIOR TO FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVAL. ELEVEN OF THE FORTY SIX PASSENGERS WERE EVACUATED OUT OF 2L. A SCRAPED KNEE WAS THE ONLY INJURY REPORTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
