## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N80GB LOST ITS CANOPY DURING FLIGHT, LEADING TO A SUBSEQUENT AND IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY LANDING. THE CANOPY ALSO STRUCK THE TAIL OF THE AIRCRAFT AFTER IT CAME OFF, RESULTING IN WHAT THE INVESTIGATING INSPECTOR ESTIMATED AS "SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE" TO THE AIRFRAME BY THE DEFINITION SPECIFIED UNDER NTSB PART 830.

PICTURES OF THE AIRCRAFT'S DAMAGE SHOW APPROXIMATELY 1/4 OF THE RIGHT ELEVATOR SURFACE TO HAVE BEEN TORN COMPLETELY AWAY, AND PORTIONS OF THE CANOPY'S STRUCTURAL FRAMEWORK TO HAVE WRAPPED ITSELF AROUND THE HINGE-LINE OF THE RIGHT ELEVATOR, STAYING WITH THE AIRCRAFT ALL THE WAY TO THE GROUND. THERE IS ALSO DAMAGE TO THE FUSELAGE SKIN ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE COCKPIT.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
