ON OCTOBER 15, 2021, AT 1100 MST, A CESSNA 175, N7584M, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CRASHED INTO A RAVINE ABOUT EIGHT MILES SOUTH EAST OF RESERVE, NM, WHILE ON A PLEASURE FLIGHT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME, AND A VFR FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED, THE CERTIFICATED COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS KILLED, AND THE TWO PASSENGERS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT SILVER CITY, NM, ON OCTOBER 15, 2021, AT ABOUT 1000 MST.

THE INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THE PILOT WAS FLYING SLOW TO SPOT ELK AND FLYING INTO THE SUN. SHE HAD TROUBLE SEEING INTO THE SUN AND FLEW INTO THE TREES. THERE WERE NO SHOULDER HARNESSES INSTALLED, IT APPEARS THIS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FATALITY. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF MECHANICAL ISSUES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22FA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22FA011), Oct 15, 2021: Cessna 175 (N7584M), Reserve, NM, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from terrain while maneuvering at a low altitude. Contributing to the accident was the pilot’s reduced forward visibility due to the sun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong.
