## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 17, 2021, AT APPROXIMATELY 1555 LOCAL TIME. A CFI AND STUDENT PILOT WERE PRACTICING SHORT/SOFT FIELD LANDINGS AT AVEY FIELD (69S). THERE WERE THREE LANDING ATTEMPTS. THE FIRST TWO WERE ATTEMPTED BY CFI, AND BOTH RESULTED IN A GO-AROUND. THE CONTROLS HAD BEEN PASSED TO THE STUDENT ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT WHICH RESULTED IN THE RUNWAY OVERRUN, POSSIBILY DUE TO SHIFTING WINDS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA013), Oct 17, 2021: Cessna 172N (N832DC), Laurier, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor’s delayed remedial action to prevent the airplane from landing long which, resulted in a runway overrun and collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
