## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT HIS PRIVATE AIRSTRIP WHILE CARRYING A PASSENGER. THE PILOT CHOSE TO ATTEMPT A LANDING ON THE SHORTER OF THE 2 RUNWAYS, WHICH ALSO HAD TALL TREES AT BOTH ENDS OF THE RUNWAY. HE NORMALLY ONLY DID THIS LANDING WHILE SOLO. BASED ON THE SURVIVING PASSENGER STATEMENT AND THE POST CRASH AIRCRAFT ANALYSIS, IT APPEARS THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN A SAFE AIRSPEED/ANGLE OF ATTACK, LEADING TO A LOW ALTITUDE STALL, RESULTING IN A SPIN TO THE RIGHT WITH A NEAR VERTICAL IMPACT ANGLE. NO POST CRASH FIRE. THE PILOT DIED 5 DAYS LATER. THE PASSENGER WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED BUT AMBULATORY, AND RECOVERED FROM HER INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA004](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA004), Oct 24, 2021: Gregg Origer PA-18 Replica (N368G), Willow, AK, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack while maneuvering for landing, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and loss of control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
