## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT REVIEWED AIRCRAFT RECORDS AND PERFORMED THE RUNUP IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERS CHECKLIST. THE PILOT VERIFIED FUEL LEVEL AND TOOK FUEL TANK SUMP SAMPLES. AFTER TRAFFIC PASSED THE PILOT MADE A TAKEOFF CALL AND OBSERVED THAT ALL INSTRUMENTS WERE INDICATING NORMAL. AT 500 FEET THE ENGINE "HICKUPED" AND EXPERIENCED A SLIGHT LOSS OF POWER. THE PILOTS REDUCED POWER LOWERED THE NOSE AND TURNED BACK FOR THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT SMOOTHLY REAPPLIED THROTTLE AND IT SURGED TO FULL POWER A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE QUITTING. THE PILOT IDENTIFIED A CLEAR AREA TO LAND ADJACENT ON THE AIRFIELD WHILE ATTEMPTING TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY AND LANDED IN THE GRASS BREAKING OFF THE NOSE AND RIGHT HAND LANDING GEAR. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A FULL STOP WITH NO INJURIES REPORTED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
