## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APPROACH TO RUNWAY 21 AT 6NC1, DURING THE BASE LEG TO FINAL, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED LIGHT CHOP AND MINOR FLUCTUATIONS IN AIRSPEED. PRIOR TO FLARE THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERD A STRONG DOWNDRAFT AND THE AIRCRAFT SANK VERY QUICKLY WHICH RESULTED IN A BOUNCE AFTER TOUCHDOWN. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO RECOVER FROM THE BOUNCE AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS ROLLING OUT UNEVENTFULLY AS THE TAIL WAS STARTING TO SETTLE ON THE RUNWAY. AS THE TAIL CAME DOWN, A VERY STRONG WIND WAS ENCOUNTERED

FROM THE RIGHT WHICH IMMEDIATELY RESULTED IN THE RIGHT WING RAISING AND THE LEFT WING CONTACTING THE GROUD. THE LEFT WING CONTACT CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO PIVOT TOWARDS THE TREES AND THE PILOT STATED THAT NO AMOUNT OF RUDDER, BRAKE OR AILERON COULD STOP THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED SHRUBS AND TREES WHICH WERE LOCATED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA063), Nov 13, 2021: Aeronca 7AC (N3063E), Denver, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll with a gusting crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
