## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING DEPARTURE OF THE AIRPORT TRAFFIC PATTERN AND STILL ON AN EXTENDED DOWNWIND. THE PILOT POSITIONED THE PROPELLER CONTROL TO A CLIMB-OUT RPM AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PROPELLER CONTROL WAS IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE PREVIOUS CONFIGURATION. THE ENGINE POWER CONTINUED TO DEGRADE AND THE AIRPLANE COULD NOT MAINTAIN ALTITUDE. THE PILOT WAS FORCED TO MAKE AN OFF-AIRPORT LANDING IN A FIELD BETWEEN A GOLF COURSE AND A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE ENGINE LOGS SHOW THAT THE ENGINE WAS PURCHASED AS A REBUILT ENGINE AND HAD ONLY 104 HOURS. THE RECENT CONDITION INSPECTION WAS ACCOMPLISHED 09/01/2021 AT 82.3 HOURS TOTAL TIME AIRFRAME AND ENGINE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT HAD A MINOR CUT TO THE HEAD.

THE AIRCRAFT HAS BEEN MOVED TO AN NTSB FACILITY FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THIS REPORT WILL BE UPDATED AS INFORMATION FROM THAT INSPECTION BECOMES AVAILABLE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA046](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA046), Nov 22, 2021: Vans RV10 (N54CT), Hurricane, UT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to a loose fuel line at the fuel servo outlet port.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
