## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON OR ABOUT DECEMBER 04, 2021, AT APPROXIMATELY 1015 EST, A 1964 MOONEY M20E, A FIXED-WING SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE BEARING REGISTRATION N16DR (SN: 416), SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AFTER THE GEAR COLLAPSED UPON LANDING ON RUNWAY 27 AT ROBEN-HOOD AIRPORT (KRQB) IN BIG RAPIDS, MI. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OF N16DR, AND WAS ALSO THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND (PIC) AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE PIC STATED THAT THE FLIGHT CONDUCTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS (14 CFR) PART 91. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED, AND THE FOLLOWING IS THE WEATHER OBSERVATION FROM KRQB AT THE APPROXIMATE TIME OF THE INCIDENT:

METAR KRQB 041515Z AUTO 30011G18KT 10SM CLR 00/M05 A3013

THE PIC STATED THAT HE WAS MAKING LEFT TRAFFIC FOR RUNWAY 27 AND THAT HE LOWERED THE GEAR OF N16DR IN THE DOWNWIND LEG. THE PIC EXPLAINED THAT IN THE MOONEY 20E, THE LANDING GEAR IS OPERATED MANUALLY VIA A JOHNSON BAR. THE PIC STATED THAT HE PERFORMED A ?GUMPS? CHECK AS HE TURNED FROM THE DOWNWIND LEG TO THE BASE LEG AND ALL INDICATIONS WERE THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. THE PIC STATED THAT THE JOHNSON BAR WAS FULL FORWARD AND THAT THE ?GEAR DOWN? LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED GREEN. THE PIC SAID THAT HE CONTINUED IN THE PATTERN, TURNING FROM BASE TO FINAL, AND ON SHORT FINAL, THE PIC STATED THAT HE PERFORMED ANOTHER ?GUMPS? CHECK TO VERIFY THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. THE PIC SAID THAT ALL INDICATIONS WERE THAT THE GEAR WAS DOWN, AND HE CONTINUED TO LAND ON RUNWAY 27. THE PIC STATED THAT AS THE THE PLANE TOUCHED DOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT?S WEIGHT TRANSFERRED TO THE LANDING GEAR, HE FELT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PLANE DROP. THE LEFT SIDE DROPPED NEXT, FOLLOWED BY THE NOSE. THE PIC SAID HE IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE PIC STATED HE SAW THAT THE AIRCRAFT?S LANDING GEAR HAD COLLAPSED.

WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE JOHNSON BAR POSITION, THE PIC SAID THAT HE KNEW THE BAR WAS ALL THE WAY FORWARD BUT COULD NOT REMEMBER IF HE CHECKED IF IT LOCKED INTO THE CLIP.

## Other reports on N16DR (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19840824051799I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19840824051799I), Aug 24, 1984: Mooney M20E (N16DR), Louisville, KY, Minor damage. Wing tip struck a parked aircraft while taxiing on the ramp.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
