## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, AN EMB 170, WAS HOLDING ON THE GUIDE IN LINE TO GATE C-87 (KEWR) WAITING FOR MARSHALERS. HOWEVER,^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE GATE CAUSING THE TAIL TO EXTEND INTO THE MOVEMENT AREA. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ON TAXIWAY ?S? ON THE WAY TO TERMINAL B PARKING. THY SAW THE EMB 170 HOLDING ON THE GATE LINE AND ASSUMED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON THE RAMP (NON- MOVEMENT AREA) WHICH MEANT THY HAD WING CLEARANCE ON THE CENTERLINE OF TAXIWAY ?S?. EVEN THOUGH THY 29 SLOWED, BELIEVED ADEQUATE CLEARANCE EXISTED, AND VISUALLY CHECKED THE RIGHT WING TIP, THE WINGLET OF THE TURKISH A330-300 HIT THE RUDDER OF THE EMB 170 CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE GROUND COLLISION WAS NOT NOTICED BY THE THY FLIGHT DECK CREW WHO CONTINUED TO TAXI TO PARKING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA22LA053](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA22LA053), Dec 31, 2021: Embraer ERJ 170-100 SE (N633RW), Newark, NJ, substantial damage. Probable cause: Turkish Airlines flightcrew’ s misperception of the distance to safely pass the stopped Republic Airways airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
