## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JANUARY 11, 2022 APPROXIMATELY AT 1247 EASTERN STANDARD TIME A PIPER PA-32-300 EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT AND THE PILOT IN COMMAND EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING. THE PILOT THE SOLE OCCUPANT RECEIVED NO REPORTED INJURIES. THE AIRPLANE IS REGISTERED TO THE PILOT.

THE ISSUE OCCURRED IN CRUISE FLIGHT APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR INTO THE CURRENT LEG OF THE FLIGHT WHEN THE EMERGENCY LANDING WAS CONDUCTED DUE TO AN UNSPECIFIED ENGINE ISSUE ON AN UNPAVED ROAD. AFTER LANDING THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED A WIRE FENCE AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO RIGHT YAW AND COME TO REST IN A FIELD. THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS IN THE EMERGENCY LANDING CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO AIRCRAFT.

THE UNSPECIFIED ENGINE ISSUE AND LOSS OF POWER IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. ADMENDMENTS TO REPORT WILL BE MADE AS NEW INFORMATION IS DISCOVERED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA104), Jan 11, 2022: Piper PA-32-300 (N475RT), Edisto Island, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to the fatigue failure of the crankshaft counterweight retaining ring and the No. 6 connecting rod.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
