ON SATURDAY, 1/15/2022, AIRCRAFT TAIL NUMBER N992SA, FLIGHT DESIGN GMBH LIGHT SPORT AIRPLANE CRASHED INTO THE JUNGLE WHILE ON CLIMB OUT AFTER TAKING OFF RUNWAY 24 OF HANA AIRPORT PHHN IN HAWAII.

THE NTSB ANALYSIS WAS COMPLETED AND REPORTED BACK TO THE HONOLULU FSDO ON 6/1/2022. NTSB ANALYSIS SHOWED:

THE RECORDING FUNCTION ON THE EFIS-D100 WAS SET TO ?OFF? SO NO RELEVANT DATA WERE RECOVERED FROM IT.

DATE RECORDED WAS NOT A VALID PARAMETER SO THE DATA PROVIDED WAS CORRELATED TO THE ACCIDENT EVENT USING THE GPS LOCATIONS TO MATCH THE PRELIMINARY INFORMATION OF THE ACCIDENT. TIME MAY ALSO BE OFFSET, THE TIME OF THE EVENT IN THE RECORDED DATA APPEARS TO BE ABOUT 11 MINUTES OFF FROM THE TIME MENTIONED IN THE PRELIMINARY.

THE DEVICE RECORDED AT DATA POINT ONCE EVERY 10 SECONDS.

THERE WASN?T AN ALTITUDE PARAMETER RECORDED. GPS ALTITUDE RECORDED A VALUE OF ZERO FOR THE DURATION OF RECORDED DATA.

THE LAST VALID DATA PARAMETER APPEARS TO BE AT 19:44:47 DEVICE TIME. AFTER THIS POINT DATA BECAME STAGNANT AND ERRATIC FOR SOME PARAMETERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA012](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA012), Jan 15, 2022: Flight Design Ctls (N992SA), Hana, HI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s exceedance of the airplane’s critical angle of attack during the initial climb, which resulted in an aerodynamic stall and subsequent impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
