## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING CLIMBOUT FROM RAVENDALE AIRPORT (O39), THE ENGINE OF THE N420WT

FAILED AT APPX 100 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN A FIELD

APPROXIMATELY HALF A MILE SOUTHWEST FROM THE DEPARTURE END OF O39 RWY 17.

THE AIRCRAFT HAD BEEN FUELED AT A PREVIOUS AIRPORT (ALTURAS, KAAT), AND

THE AIRCRAFT HAD FUEL ON BOARD BEING DRAWN FROM THE RIGHT TANK, AT THE

TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

THE AIRCRAFT WAS CLIMBING OUT THROUGH 100 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL (AGL)

AND 85 KIAS WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED WITH MISHAP SECOND PILOT FLYING.

MISHAP PILOT, THE PIC, TOOK CONTROLS, LOWERED THE NOSE TO PRESERVE

AIRSPEED, AND MADE A SLIGHT LEFT TURN TO TRY TO MAKE A LANDING ON A ROAD.

HE CHECKED THROTTLE AND MIXTURE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS NOT OPERATOR ERROR.

THROTTLE AND MIXTURE WERE AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE FOR THIS PHASE OF

FLIGHT. THE MISHAP PILOT THEN EXTENDED FLAPS FOR LANDING, AND LANDED THE

AIRCRAFT TO THE RIGHT OF THE ROAD (THE MISHAP PILOT HAD NOTICED POWER

LINES PARALLELING THE ROAD AND DID NOT WANT TO ATTEMPT A LANDING WITH

THOSE POWER LINES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY). THE AIRCRAFT'S LANDING GEAR

SHEARED ON LANDING, AND THE AIRCRAFT SLID APPROXIMATELY 80 FEET BEFORE

COMING TO A STOP. MISHAP PILOT HAD MINOR INJURY, MISHAP SECOND PILOT AND

PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
