## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STATED HE DECIDED TO FLY IN THE AFTERNOON FOR AN HOUR. ENGINE WAS RUNNING SMOOTH, HAD 2+ HOURS OF FUEL ON BOARD. CIRCLED AROUND THE SKI RESORT, WAS ?DOWN LOW A LITTLE BIT? AND THE ENGINE QUIT. ESTIMATES HE WAS 1,500 TO 2,000 FT AGL WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER JUST PRIOR TO CONTACTING HAILEY?S TOWER. DID EVERYTHING HE COULD IN HIS POWER, SWITCHED FUEL APPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT, HIT THE STARTER, IT KIND OF FIRED A LITTLE BIT, BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTORE POWER. HE LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO LAND. INITIATED A LANDING IN A SNOW-COVERED FIELD. UNFORTUNATELY, A DIRT BANK/CULVERT WAS RIGHT WHERE HE TOUCHED DOWN, THE LANDING GEAR HIT RIGHT BEFORE IT IN APPROXIMATELY 3FT OF SNOW, AND IT NOSED OVER. HIT HIS HEAD REAL HARD ON THE TOP OF THE CABIN (HAD A LYFT HELMET). TURNED POWER/FUEL OFF AFTER HE EXITED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA089](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA089), Jan 30, 2022: Blake D Barrymore Just Acft Superstol (N8794G), Ketchum, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power due to carburetor ice.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
