## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS CONDUCTING A SERIES OF LOW APPROACHES AT KASILOF AIRPORT WHEN HE LOST CONTROL ON TOUCHDOWN RESULTING IN THE ACCIDENT. AT THE TIME, THE KASILOF AIRPORT RUNWAY WAS SNOW COVERED AND UNPLOWED WITH A FALLEN TREE ACROSS THE RUNWAY SURFACE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE RUNWAY CONDITIONS AND THAT IT WAS UNSUITABLE FOR LANDING PRIOR TO HIS APPROACHES.

HIS FIRST APPROACH WAS LOW THOUGH WITHOUT SURFACE CONTACT. ON THE SECOND APPROACH THE PILOT FELT HIS WHEELS TOUCH THE SNOW. DURING THE THIRD APPROACH, WHILE TRYING TO DRAG HIS WHEELS THROUGH THE SNOW AGAIN, THE AIRCRAFT WHEELS DUG IN, THE PILOT ADDED FULL POWER AND THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE RIGHT, THE LEFT WING TIP AND THE NOSE STUCK THE SURFACE, AND THEN THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ONTO IT'S BACK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA017](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA017), Feb 5, 2022: Piper PA-22-150 (N23RB), Kasilof, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s decision to land on an unmaintained runway surface, which resulted in a loss of control and nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
