## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT FORGOT TO SET FLAPS TO TAKEOFF SETTING. PILOT RECOGNIZED THIS TOO LATE IN TAKEOFF ROLL FOR SAFE ABORT, AND ATTEMPTED NO-FLAP TAKEOFF. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH RUN DISTANCE AVAILABLE TO GENERATE NO-FLAP TAKEOFF SPEED AND CLEAR APPROXIMATELY 15' OBSTACLES (TREES) AT END OF FIELD. AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TREES AT DEPARTURE END OF FIELD, WHICH STOPPED PROPELLER AND CAUSED LOSS OF POWER AND IMPACT IN FIELD BEYOND TREES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA116](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA116), Feb 5, 2022: Dehavilland DHC-2 (N1454Z), Gilbert, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s improper flap setting, which resulted in a collision with trees during a takeoff attempt from a short grass field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
