## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1700HRS (CST) THE PILOT DEPARTED RUNWAY 17 FROM CKV AND BEGAN TO CLIMB. UPON REACHING 990 MSL THE ENGINE SLOWLY DIED. THE PILOT ESTABLISHED THE BEST GLIDE SPEED, CHECKED THE MIXTURE AND THROTTLE POSITIONS AND TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE UNSUCCESSFULLY. THE PILOT SWITCHED FROM LEFT FUEL TANK TO RIGHT AND TRIED TO START ENGINE AGAIN UNSUCCESSFULLY. THE BOOSTER PUMP WAS STILL ON FROM TAKEOFF. AS THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOOSING ALTITUDE THE PILOT DECIDED HIS ONLY CHOICE WAS TO MAKE AN OFF AIRFIELD LANDING. THE PILOT MADE A RADIO CALL EXPLAINING HIS SITUATION AND LANDED IN A HARVESTED CORNFIELD. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
