## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY ON A FIRST SUPERVISED SOLO FLIGHT. THE INSTRUCTOR GAVE ALL THE INSTRUCTION REQUIRED AND MADE ALL THE APPROPRIATE ENDORSEMENTS FOR THIS FLIGHT. THE PLAN WAS FOR THE STUDENT TO FLY SOLO FROM HII, LAKE HAVASU, AZ TO 49X, CHEMHUEVI VALLEY, CA, CONDUCT TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS THERE THEN RETURN TO LAKE HAVASU, AZ. THE CFI WAS PLANNING TO WATCH THE FLIGHT FROM A LOCAL PARK BETWEEN THE TWO NEIGHBORING AIRPORTS. DURING ONE OF THE TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF, LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND FLOATED OFF THE RUNWAY SURFACE AND CAME TO SUDDEN STOP AGAINST SOME TREES. THE WING SPAR WAS BENT AND THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA093](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA093), Feb 8, 2022: Cessna 152 (N6496L), Chemehuevi Valley, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot’s loss of directional control during takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
