## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT FILED A COMPANY VFR FLIGHT PLAN AT APPROXIMATELY 0630 ALASKA STANDARD TIME. FLIGHT DEPARTED DEADHORSE AT 7 AM HEADED TO UMIAT WITH 7 PASSENGERS. PILOT STATED HE WAS FOLLOWING ANOTHER COMPANY AIRPLANE TO THE SAME LOCATION. AS THE PILOT WAS APPROACHING UMIAT HE NOTICED HE WAS A FEW HUNDRED OFF COURSE TO RUNWAY. PILOT STATED THAT ONCE HE REALIZED HE WAS OFF COURSE HE FELT A BUMP THAT FELT LIKE WAKE TURBULENCE. THE PILOT DID NOT NOTICE ANY LOSS IN ALTITUDE. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS IN A FLAT LIGHT SITUATION AND THE LAST TIME HE LOOKED AT THE RADAR ALTIMETER IT READ 250 FEET. THIS WAS THE PILOTS FIRST TIME FLYING INTO THIS SITE. THE PILOT LANDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY BY A FEW HUNDRED FEET. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LANDING GEAR, LEFT WING TIP AND PROPELLER. NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR 7 PASSENGERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA019](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA019), Feb 21, 2022: Dehavilland DHC-3 (N413JP), Deadhorse, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain a proper approach path in flat light conditions, which resulted in landing short of the runway and impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
