## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING A TRAINING FLIGHT THE CFI AND HIS STUDENT WERE RETURED TO THEIR HOME AIRPORT. (UPPER CUMBERLAND REGIONAL AIRPORT) (SRB)

DURING THE INITAL TOUCHDOWN THEY EACH HEARD A LOUD POP.

THE CFI TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND PERFORMED A GO AROUND (TOGA). THE STUDENT STATED "THERE GOES OUR TIRE". CFI LOOKED OUT THE LEFT WINDOW AND NOTED THE SAME THING.

THEY FLEW APPROXIMATELY TWO MORE HOURS BURNING OFF FUEL. THEN LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT WITH TWO OF THREE LANDING GEARS. NO HARD LANDING OCCURRED BEFORE THIS FAILURE, WHICH WAS DISCUSSED DURING INTERVIEWS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA171](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA171), Mar 27, 2022: Cessna 172 (N8431U), Sparta, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: Maintenance personnel’s failure to properly affix left main landing gear components, which led to the failure of the left main landing gear during the accident flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
