## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 03/29/2022 AT 1530 EST N5067W WAS CONDUCTING A VFR CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM KOBE TO KLBT WHEN 14 MILES NORTHWEST OF MELBOURNE, FL THE PILOT OBSERVED NO OIL PRESSURE AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO VIBRATE. THE PILOT DIVERTED TO THE MELBOURNE, FL AIRPORT (KMLB) AND STRUCK POWERLINES WHILE ON APPROACH TO RUNWAY 09R. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST INVERTED ON A SIDE STREET A HALF MILE FROM THE APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 09R.

FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE NUMBER THREE CYLINDER CONNECTING ROD FAILED IN FLIGHT RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER AND THE AIRCRAFT BEING UNABLE TO SUSTAIN FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA22LA172](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA22LA172), Mar 29, 2022: Piper PA-28 (N5067W), Melbourne, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A loss of engine power due to oil starvation as a result of the failure of the No. 3 crankshaft journal bearing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
