## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE FLYING SOUTH ALONG AN ASCENDING RIDGELINE AT 8000 MSL AT A SPEED OF 55 KNOTS, THE AIRCRAFT LOST LIFT. THE AIRCRAFT HAD SINK OF 6 KNOTS. THE PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT INTO A RIGHT BANK ANGLE TO GAIN DISTANCE FROM THE TERRAIN AT WHICH POINT THE RIGHT WING TIP MADE CONTACT WITH A TREE, SPINNING THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RIGHT BEFORE CRASHING INTO MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22LA150](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22LA150), Apr 8, 2022: Alexander Schleicher ASK 21 (N212NM), Valyermo, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The gliders encounter with atmospheric conditions where the lift was not sufficient to maintain flight and subsequent impact with mountainous terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
