## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT STATED THAT ON APPROACH TO LANDING ON THE SOUTH FACING RUNWAY OF STAR K RANCH, HE ENTERED INTO A FLARE THAT WAS TOO HIGH. THE SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF AIRSPEED RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT LOSING LIFT AND TOUCHING DOWN HARD.

THIS TOUCHDOWN CAUSED THE AIRPLANE TO "BOUNCE" ONCE, MAIN GEAR FIRST, AND VEER OFF COURSE. THE MOMENTUM OF THE AIRCRAFT CARRIED IT INTO THE FENCELINE LOCATED ~45 FEET FROM RUNWAY CENTERLINE WHERE THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EMPENNAGE IMPACTED A FENCE POST. THIS IMPACT TWISTED THE RIGHT SIDE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER AND SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED THE ELEVATOR CONTROL SURFACE.

THE OUTER 3/4 OF THE RIGHT WING'S LEADING EDGE REACHED OVER/BEYOND THIS FENCELINE AND STRUCK A TREE. AFTER THESE IMPACTS THE AIRCRAFT WAS BROUGHT TO REST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN22LA175](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN22LA175), Apr 9, 2022: Cessna 182Q (N978C), Hebbronville, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots improper landing flare which resulted in a hard landing and loss of airplane control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
