THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

WE ESTIMATE THE AIRPLANE WAS AT OR ABOVE GROSS WEIGHT AND THE ESTIMATED DENSITY ALTITUDE OF 9700 FT. WITTNESSES CONFIRMED THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING BUT THE AIRPLANE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN ITS ALTITUDE. THE AIRCREW ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD AND UPON TOUCHDOWN CRASHED THEN WENT INVERTED UNTIL FINAL RESTING LOCATION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR22FA148](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR22FA148), Apr 9, 2022: Taylorcraft BL-65 (N24345), Counselor, NM, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: A loss of control while maneuvering at a high-density altitude in gusty wind conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
