## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DEPARTED MERRILL FIELD FOR LANDING PRACTICE AT WILLOW AIRPORT, LANDED AT WILLOW FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES, TOOK OFF AGAIN AND MADE TWO MORE LANDINGS, THEN DEPARTED FOR BIRCHWOOD AIRPORT FOR ONE MORE LANDING BEFORE THE PLANNED RETURN TO MERRILL FIELD. I ENTERED THE RIGHT DOWNWIND PATTERN AT BIRCHWOOD AIRPORT ( PABV) FOR RUNWAY 20R AND LANDED NORMALLY ON CENTER LINE, WHILE LOWERING THE NOSE WHEEL TO THE GROUND THE AIRPLANE UNEXPECTEDLY SWERVE HARD RIGHT, I WAS UNABLE TO RECOVER IN TIME AND IMPACTED THE HARD SNOW ON THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, THE AIRPLANE FLIPPED OVER AND ENDED UP UPSIDE DOWN.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22LA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22LA028), Apr 10, 2022: Cessna 172H (N8020L), Chugiak, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control while landing, which resulted in a runway excursion and nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
