## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING APPROACH TO THE AIRPORT, THE HELICOPTER ENGINE FAILED. IT APPEARS THAT THE STUDENT PILOT FAILED TO APPROPRIATELY RESPOND TO THE EMERGENCY. THE ROTOR SYSTEM SLOWED TO A POINT WHERE RECOVERY WAS NOT PROBABLE. THE HELICOPTER IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A TAIL LOW ATTITUDE, SPUN APPROXIMATELY 85 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND ROLLED ON TO IT'S RIGHT SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC22FA030](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC22FA030), Apr 15, 2022: Robinson Helicopter R22 Beta (N7516G), Gila Bend, AZ, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The student pilot’s failure to maintain control during the landing approach.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
